Rufus and Lucinda Dorsey were excited and filled with joy on March 22,1914 when the youngest of eight, Mabel Lillian Dorsey was bom to begin her journey on the road of life. She received her formal education from Escanbia County Training School where she excelled and graduated Summa Cum Lude and class valedictorian.

Spirituality was very important to the Dorsey Family and going to church was not an option. Mabel accepted Jesus the Christ as her personal Savior and joined Liberty Baptist Church where her mother was a charter member. As her sisters and brothers became older, Mabel accepted the responsibility cheerfully to take care of her parents until their transition. Mabel came to Detroit, Ml to be with her sisters Pearlie Mae White and Ruth Harris. After a short period of time she returned to Atmore, AL to be with her sister Ophelia Wheeler. Upon her return in the 1930's she decided to make Detroit, MI her home.

In the late 1930's Mabel went to a tent revival along with her sisters and was baptized under the leadership of Elder Ford, a Seventh Day Adventist evangelist. She became a charter member of the Old Eastside Church which now is known as Burns Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church where she was a member for 70 years. The church grew from thirty members to over 800 members. She demonstrated enormous dedication and leadership to her church family serving as Youth Director, Vacation Bible School Leader, Sabbath School Superintendent, Sabbath School Teacher, choir member, assistant treasurer, nominating committee member, delegate for Seventh Day Adventist conferences. Women's Day Co-Chair and choir member. While in the choir it was the directress Barbara Dent that introduced the choir to the song "In Heavenly Love Abiding," which became her favorite song that she would sing all the time. On Saturday, November 5, 1994 Mabel was honored by the Detroit City Council Testimonial Resolution for outstanding service to the Burns Avenue SDA church.

On March 17,1952 Mabel Dorsey married Stonewall Jackson Beal, a love affair that lasted for 42 years until his transition. Mabel and Jackson were inseparable. They shared many things family gatherings with the Dorsey family as well as The Beal family. Jackson Beal who is a Deacon and Mabel, structured their home into a God fearing home. Prayer, family devotion, and conversations of the goodness of God were very common in the Beal household. When Jackson became challenged with an issue of health it was Mabel who honored her wedding vows to the end by providing unselfish committed care taking for 18 years never complaining.

Education was very important to Mabel. She along with eleven other ladies organized the Brunette Club, that supported Bums Avenue SDA church school Davidson Jr. Academy, which is now known as Peterson Warren Academy. The club had 3 major fund-raisers a year: the Cedar Point Trip, their annual concert featuring The Brothers of Washington D.C. and the annual Green Leaf Tea full of glamour and glitz. These ladies were responsible for providing college scholarships, funding the school library, class room furnishings, books and supplies and many other necessities for the students.

Mabel had a love for children. It was after raising 17 foster children that the apple other eye was bom, Rufus Alexander Beal. She was involved greatly in his rearing providing endless opportunities and experiences for her son. Her constant conversations with him was to be the very best, apply yourself, never concern yourself with the thoughts and actions of others and "but seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." St. Matthew 6:33. Mabel supported her son in all his career endeavors and took pride in her sweet heart and little boy blue (her names of affection lor her only child). She would always tell him she could never express in words how much she loved him. Before she made her transition she would always nod her head and smiled in agreement that her love for him was still alive.

On Friday, May 31,2008 Mother Mabel Beal at peace with the Lord and uninterrupted faith, went to sleep with the consciousness that she w ill rise in the first resurrection to live throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity with Christ.
